Introduction
This article explains how new users can establish access to DataSet when they have been invited to an organization account. It also contains instructions for account administrators who are on-boarding new users.
Invitation Process
New users can be invited by any user with "full" access permissions.
Account Admins: Please be sure that the user's email account exists before sending the invitation. Click the User Menu -> "Manage Users & Teams" -> "Users" to add users.
The user account will be created by the invitation process if it doesn't already exist. Removing a user from the "User Accounts" page will prevent them from accessing the organization account.
Verification Email
Users will receive an email with the subject "Welcome to DataSet!" and a heading of "You have been invited to join the <organization email> team."
Clicking the "Accept Invitation" button will take the user to the DataSet sign-in page. The sign-in method will vary by how the organization account was configured.
Username / Password Only
User will be prompted to enter a password prior to accessing DataSet.
SSO
If your organization has configured SSO sign ins for DataSet, the "Accept Invitation" link will take you to the IdP sign-in page. Once the SSO sign in process is complete, the user will be directed to DataSet.
In some cases, users may wish to establish a password instead. Please note that this is only possible if the organization account allows username / password logins.
SSO Only
If SSO is enabled and username / password sign-ins are disabled, user will need to complete the SSO authentication process before they can access their organization's DataSet account.
If you attempt to sign in from the "Log In" page by clicking the "Log in using Password" link and see the following error after clicking "Continue", you will need to use SSO to authenticate.
SSO + Username / Password
User can create a password by following the steps below:
- Access https://app.scalyr.com or https://app.eu.scalyr.com (depending on the organization account's region of establishment).
- At the "Login" prompt, click the "Log in using Password" link:
- Click the "Forgot password?" link and enter the user's email address on the next prompt
- An email with a link to the password reset page will be sent to the user.
Linking to Organization Account
If the user's account is unlinked from the organization account, they may see a message of "Trial Expired" or "X days left" beside their username in the upper right corner:
This can be remedied by clicking the User Menu -> "Manage Users & Teams" -> "Teams"
Scroll down to the "Quick-switch" section and select the organization account's email from the list. Click the link to re-link to the organization account.
If a link to the organization account is not present, scroll down to the "Update Account" section and enter the organization account's email in the "Account to Use" field and click the "Set Link" button to proceed.
